Mission: The mission of The Great Reno Balloon Race is to provide a premier, safe, family-oriented/tourist-attractive, visually dramatic event that celebrates the joy of flight while remaining free to the public.
History: The Great Reno Balloon Race takes place every September on the weekend following Labor Day. The event, which began with just 20 balloons in 1982, has grown to showcase more than 100 balloons and pilots from as far away as Auckland, New Zealand.
Attendance: On average, The Great Reno Balloon Race will see 150,000 spectators come together at the launch field to share in the wonder of this three-day event.
The Balloon Race is a visual feast for the eyes and the soul for anyone, be they young or old, seasoned locals or first time visitors, who make the early morning trek to the launch field to take part in the magic of the event. For the last 28 years, images and stories of The Great Reno Balloon Race have circulated via word of mouth as well as through local, regional and national media.
