I attended the first GRBR in my twenty-somethings...This is the first year my five and three year-olds have attended. It was wonderful to renew my own awe through their eyes...And as I said that morning twenty years ago, "you can't have a bad day starting it out with a balloon race!"

My favorite balloon is the Bald eagle because it looks like a real eagle. Our family tradition has been going to the balloon races every year for the past 5 years. I am only 7 years old. It is a great time and the people are always nice.

I still can’t believe the great time we had.  We watched the morning glow balloons, the launching of the 100 + balloons at daybreak and afterwards my wife took a ride. My wife was like a 5 year old at Christmas. Over the past 40 years of our marriage I can’t recall a better show. Everyone should be congratulated for a job well done. We will be back next year.

A friend of ours encouraged us to come up to see the race about 3 years ago.  We were just amazed at the beauty of the balloons and the ability to get among the crowds directly at the site.  It was amazing to watch and photograph. We return every year as will this to see the race again.

I recently relocated to St. Petersburg, Fl after living in Reno for 46 years, just up the street from Rancho San Rafael Park.  I was able to watch the park grow from a ranch where the cows used to serenade us to sleep to hearing the awesome sound of over a hundred balloons taking off just after sunrise with the star spangled banner playing on as the eagle balloon lifted gently onto the horizon.  I love Nevada and miss it and have always made it a point to be back in September when once again the gentle giants mount the skies and awe us all with their magnificent beauty.

I have been a fan of the Balloon Race for many years. Every year has been a different year. I have been through cold to warm weather, rain, fog wind and sunshine and through thick and thin the races always turned out spectacular. Just the fact that I am able to attend such a spectacular event is memory enough for me, and it has to be one of the greatest events Reno has to offer.

In 2004 I moved from L.A. leaving my entire emotional and social anchors behind. I arrived in Reno not knowing a soul or the surroundings. I heard about the Balloon Race and was extremely curious about this event. On THE day, I got up REAL early, dressed warmly and headed to the field. I remember the surreal feeling of walking in the dark with hundreds of other people, their shadows surrounded by halos, quietly spilling out onto this giant field. I remember crying when I saw the eagle flying, and wishing that my family could see the beautiful spectacle. I remember the feeling of friendliness and good humor. I even rode on a balloon! OHHHH, What a thrill!! I was absolutely convinced on that day that the move had been a wise one. The sense of unity and small town activities was so comforting to me at that time in my life, and that beautiful dawn sky! This event represents the beginning of new experiences in a new life for me, and I  cannot imagine not going to see the show for as long as I am able.
