Information on Parking & Transportation
Parking at The Great Reno Balloon Race is extremely limited and traffic can be congested. Be sure to leave plenty of time. The information listed below will help make your travel to and from the event enjoyable and hassle free. Remember, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park is only 1.5 miles from downtown Reno and would make a wonderful morning walk for our out-of-town visitors who are so inclined.
Parking at the Event
Reserved VIP Parking passes will again be available for purchase this year! Check back soon to reserve your spot!
If you don't mind walking a few blocks you can park for free at the University’s north lots but remember that cars must be removed by 10 a.m. Parking will also be available at the corner of North Sierra Street and McCarran Boulevard and at the Coleman Street parking lot for a $10 donation. Sierra Street will be blocked off to anyone who does not have a handicap plaquard or parking pass on all three mornings of the event.
RTC RIDE Service
RTC RIDE will be offering park & ride service to and from The Great Reno Balloon Race on Saturday and Sunday, September 8 & 9. RTC RIDE has pickup points at
RSCVA Convention Center, Parking Lot C, Reed High School and the RTC 4th Street Station in downtown Reno. To print a list of specific times, locations and fares please click here, or for more information please call (775) 348-RIDE or go to the RTC Web site www.rtcwashoe.com.
Handicapped Parking
As always handicapped parking is available at the event for those with a handicapped placard or license plate. Please go to any entrance of the park and you will be directed to a handicapped parking lot. If needed, volunteers with golf carts will be available to transport those unable to walk from the parking lot to the event site. Please be aware, there may be an extended wait time for an available golf cart depending on the number of those requesting assistance.
RV Information.
In 2005, all vehicles including RVs were banned from parking on McCarran Blvd. due to safety concerns of The City of Reno and Police Department. Click here to read more about it.
Rancho San Rafael Park regulations prohibit overnight parking of vehicles/RVs, excluding security vehicles, during the event. For a list of RV parks in the area please go to the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority website or contact them at (800) 367-7366.
